The ravenous bugblatter beast of Traal

I love Halloween! I love having a 5-year-old who provides me a good excuse to get dressed up and go trick-or-treating!

Today I was hoping to build up my stock of Halloween decorations but there isn't much out there that I like. I did buy 2 big orange pumpkins, a white pumpkin and a bunch of gourds.

This time of year always makes me want to bake things with pumpkins and apples. Here is one of my favorite fall recipes, which my mom used to make for Thanksgiving:

Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread

1 3/4 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine
3/4 cup canned pumpkin
2 eggs
6 oz. chocolate chips (optional)

Combine flour, soda, salt and spices. In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar, then blend in eggs, pumpkin, dry ingredients, and chocolate chips. Pour into greased loaf pan and bake at 350 for 65-75 minutes.

Optional glaze:
1/2 cup confectioners sugar
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1/8 tsp. cinnamon

Blend above with 1-2 tbs. cream or hot water until you get a drizzly glaze.
